One of BUEF's central missions is to bring together people who share common values, a common vision, and a commitment to meaningful impact.
In February, London hosted a special screening of Second Wind, a powerful Ukrainian documentary presented under the patronage of Her Excellency Madame Hélène Duchêne, French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, in partnership with British Ukrainian Economic Future.
Second Wind tells the remarkable true story of five Ukrainian defenders — four of them amputees and one who suffered severe combat injuries — who challenge the world's perceptions of disability and resilience by ascending Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. From the battlefields of Ukraine to the roof of Africa, their journey becomes a testament to human will, courage, and the unbreakable spirit of a nation.
This is more than a physical expedition. The film documents the inner transformation of its heroes as they overcome pain and trauma, find strength in brotherhood, and redefine life after loss. It sets out to replace pity with admiration, war fatigue with triumph, and resignation with action.
The London event became a unique meeting point for diplomacy, film, and the Ukrainian-British community, bringing distinguished guests together around this inspiring story. The screening was followed by an engaging Q&A session with director Masha Kondakova, producer Gennady Gazin, and members of the cast, offering deeper insight into the making of the film and the message at its heart.
For the BUEF team, the evening was especially meaningful. We were delighted to bring our partners and friends together in a space of dialogue and trust — not only to support Ukrainian storytelling on the international stage, but also to lay strong foundations for future collaboration and new initiatives.
